Ladies, How to Get Rid of Ingrown Hair on your Legs In 6 Steps

A hair that does not grow out of its follicle and remains rooted in the skin, or a strand of hair that begins to curl back and grows into the follicle, is an ingrown hair. They can influence any of your body parts, such as, legs, neck or even your face.

When left untreated, they tend to become painful and/or infected. If you shave your legs often, then ingrown hair are one of your major areas of concern. Here are a few instructions that will help you treat these irritants and even prevent you from getting them back.

1. Exfoliating

Scrub the area of the ingrown hair twice each day. This removes oil, dirt and dead skin cells that are quite responsible for trapping the hair in there. Rub it from all directions. Remember to be gentle. If you are too harsh with scrubbing, you might end up bleeding. Also, do not rush. The process might take a bit longer than your initial expectations

2. Acne Medication

When an ingrown hair has pus in it, it becomes more like a pimple. So treat it with medication recommended for acne, such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. This reduces the swelling and gives the hair enough space to grow outwards.

3. Compress

Take a washcloth and dip it in hot water. Now press it on the affected area. Repeat when your cloth cools down. This will soften your skin, and will bring it to the surface. Be patient and apply it for around 10 minutes.

4. Make Use of a Sharp Device

Take tweezers, sterile needles or a medical devices built for ingrown hair to gently pull the hair out of your skin. Do not dig for the strand of hair, as it will worsen your condition and you might end up cutting your skin.

5. Keep your Skin Clean

Wash the affected area with an antiseptic in order to protect your skin from infection. Exfoliate often as it will prevent future growth of ingrown hair.

6. Be Careful with Shaving

Choose electric razor over blade razors. Do not shave very frequently as this does not allow the hair to surface from the follicle. Lather your legs and shave in the same direction (always down, never up)
